The origin of the educational trust Shree Nootan Kelavani Mandal can be traced back in the 1956, when its pioneers like Late Shree Morarji Desai, the ex-Prime Minister of India, Late Shree Siddharthbhai Lalbhai Sheth, and Shree Kantilal Ranchhodji Desai succeeded in accomplishing their long cherish dream of providing opportunities of higher education to the socially backward communities of Valsad District. The trust made a humble beginning by initiating Shree Nootan Kelavani Mandal Arts and Science College in 1957. Their efforts got tremendous response from the people and need for establishing a Commerce College was soon realized. Consequently, the trust made an inclusion of a Commerce College with Arts College in the year 1964. The N. K. M. Science College was renamed as B. K. M. Science College in the year 1964.
Looking to the need in industrial field, there required educational institutions where one can have thorough knowledge in the respective field. The experts in the field of science had a great devotion to laid the foundation of the college and made the institution one of the first and best educational platforms in the Valsad district.
During the year 2010-2011 under the program ‘Soil Health Testing’ organized by State Government and Higher Education Commissioner, the college received a state level award. Moreover, in order to improve English language, the college has arranged SCOPE which is a short term course provided by Cambridge University, in which the institution got state level award.
The college is affiliated with Veer Narmad South Gujarat University Surat. Being the leading science college valsad district, its serves the need of more than 1500 students studying from graduate to post graduate level. The college has research center where students are working for their M.Phill & Ph.D in Chemistry and Botany. The college was accredited “B” Grade in 2004 and “B” in 2016 by NAAC. The institution was accredited with CGPA 2.91 on four point scale as per NAAC criteria at Grade B under KCG in 2016.
